Dear Mr. or Mrs. (Name),
(This is the body of your individual letter) I wish that I could tell you the best way to ask for a donation from an individual that you have either never met or even know well. For some of us it is extremely difficult to ask for money, but we all know that the work that Lifelines Foundation for Eating Disorders is doing is making a difference in people's lives every day. When you write, remember that a postage stamp is more than what we had before you wrote to that person asking for help. It is imperative that when you write for a donation that you believe in your heart that you are working to help ease the suffering of someone suffering from this horrible disease. It is easy for me to stand and talk before 500 people at a workshop or conference but to ask someone to write a check is the most difficult thing I could do. So, if writing for donations or helping with fund raising is not something that you can do with ease, then help Lifelines Foundation in another way.
If writing for a donation or gift is something that you feel you can do, then go for it. There is not set sample for your own self expression. I do encourage that you include copies of our proclamations, which can be copied off the computer, letters of endorsements that can be obtained from Lifelines Foundation Headquarters or samples of the publicity articles that have been published about our work.
One last thought, Lifelines Foundation has an excellent reputation for our work and our ethics. Build on that reputation and the dedication of the foundation to service, support and encouragement.
