Texas Department of Health Funds Publication
of Lifelines Foundation for Eating Disorders Educational materials

The Texas Department of Health has allotted $25,000 to $30,000 in state funding to publish and drop ship the educational materials to Lifelines for distribution in 11,000 public schools across Texas.

In the five years that Lifelines Foundation for Eating Disorders has been presenting in the schools across Texas there has been one resounding theme…the lack of educational materials. For the last two years Lifelines Foundation for Eating Disorders has had a vision of posters for every school nurse and school counselor to hang in their offices. The school nurses and counselors have told us repeatedly that they don’t have the materials to distribute when a student, teacher, coach or family member comes to them for help. The other issue is how do you open a dialogue with a student, an educational professional or a parent about eating disorders. We believe that the eye-catching posters poster-v3-sm.jpg poster-v1-sm.jpg

will offer an open invitation for students, faculty, and parents to approach nurses and counselors for more information. Along with the posters we have developed a one-sheet handout for someone that suspects they or someone they care about might have an eating disorder.

The other part of this project is a series of three booklets to individually deal with the different aspects of eating disorders. The first booklet is for Professionals. Professionals that deal with children, adolescents and adults in any field are often on the front lines of discovery without adequate materials to refer to. A physician, a therapist, an education youth minister and a parent author the contents of this booklet.

The second booklet is for Family and Friends. The same physician, therapist, education youth minister, and two parents author this booklet. The focus of this booklet is for those seeking information that are either family members or friends of those suffering.

The third and final booklet is the most encouraging! The same group of professionals as the previous booklets writes this booklet with the focus on the demographic of those that suffer. BUT with special input from three remarkable women that are in various stages of recovery from their eating disorders. This booklet is offers hope courage and strength for all those suffering from eating disorders.

The goal of Lifelines Foundation for Eating Disorders is to conduct a one-day seminar in each of the 20 Educational Service Centers. The one-day seminar would offer the opportunity to distribute and explain the materials to educators so they can go out into the individual school districts to educate the educators! If you would like to have a presentation in your school district or in your Educational Service Center please contact Lifelines Foundation for Eating Disorders at (254) 741-9998 or visit our web site at www.lfed.org. If you are interested in obtaining any of the educational materials for your office, school or churches please contact Lifelines Foundation at the above number.
